Node.js announced forthcoming security releases for 26.x, 24.x and 22.x in a notice labeled “Last Updated” October 14, 2026. Releases are expected on or shortly after October 21, 2026; as of October 18, the notice did not announce shipped fixes. Sources: Node.js
The official notice lists high as the highest announced severity for each line; this does not mean every vulnerability has that rating. Oday Bakkour’s October 17, 2026, report also described forthcoming security releases for those three lines, citing the official announcement. Sources: Node.js, Oday Bakkour
The notice does not list Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) identifiers, vulnerability counts, technical details, exploit prerequisites or fixed versions. It does not establish whether active exploitation has occurred. Sources: Node.js
Node.js’s security policy says fixes are prepared privately, with changes and builds published on the embargo date. Sources: Node.js
BuildRiot recommends using the advance notice for patch preparation. Inventory actual runtimes, assign patch owners and update channels, and prepare staged rollouts. Flag unsupported versions for migration planning.
What to do
BuildRiot recommends the following preparation and rollout checklist:
- Inventory runtimes across services, containers, continuous integration jobs and managed environments. Locate installations on the affected Node.js 26.x, 24.x and 22.x release lines.
- Assign each deployment a patch owner and update channel. Flag unsupported versions for migration planning.
- Prepare staging tests, image rebuilds, canary rollouts, monitoring signals and rollback criteria for Node.js 26.x, 24.x and 22.x.
- After release, check the advisory for fixed Node.js 26.x, 24.x and 22.x versions and assess applicability. Confirm package, image or managed-provider availability.
- After rollout, verify running Node.js versions against the announced fixes for applicable 26.x, 24.x and 22.x deployments. Record exceptions with owners. Sources: Node.js
