Google released Android 17 QPR2 Beta 7.1 on October 16, 2026. It says the release fixes severe UI stuttering and freezes lasting multiple seconds. Build CP41.260831.019 replaces Beta 7’s October 9 build, CP41.260831.016. The security patch level remains 2026-10-05. Google lists the fix under Beta 7.1 as issue 571186734. Android Emulator support remains ARM64 and x86-64, listed as ARM (v8-A) and x86 (64-bit), unchanged from Beta 7. Pixel 11 Pro Fold users may need to re-enroll Face Unlock, a warning Google had already documented for Beta 7. Sources: Android Developers
Under existing QPR2 call-forwarding restrictions, CALL_PHONE alone is insufficient for affected TelephonyManager.sendUssdRequest() calls. Apps should handle USSD_ERROR_NOT_ALLOWED gracefully. Apps without an exempted role should offer ACTION_DIAL for user-confirmed setup. Manually entered forwarding codes require system-dialer confirmation. Other unstructured supplementary service data requests remain unaffected. Sources: Android Developers
Supported Pixels can receive over-the-air updates through Android Beta for Pixel enrollment. Google says this usually avoids a full reset. Google lists factory images for 23 Pixel devices, with build CP41.260831.019 and SHA-256 checksums. Factory flashing requires a full reset and erases user data. Google recommends a backup before installation. Sources: Android Developers
Google’s emulator setup uses the latest Android Emulator and a supported Pixel virtual device with the Android 17 CinnamonBun image. Tablet, foldable and resizable configurations offer additional layout-testing options. Google also offers Generic System Images for compatible Treble-compliant devices. Device requirements and image selection apply. Sources: Android Developers
What to do
- For affected QPR2 call-forwarding flows, handle USSD_ERROR_NOT_ALLOWED gracefully and offer ACTION_DIAL when the app lacks an exempted role.
- For Android 17 emulator testing, open Android Studio’s SDK Manager, select SDK Tools and install the latest Android Emulator.
- In Device Manager, create a supported Pixel virtual device, download the Android 17 CinnamonBun image, finish configuration and start it.
- Back up a supported Pixel before installing CP41.260831.019, allowing for the mandatory data erase if choosing factory flashing. Sources: Android Developers
